Peterborough has the highest amount of green space per person in the country.

Despite being a bustling and thriving city, Peterborough has many spaces for you to enjoy your leisure time and relax and unwind.

Less than three miles from the city centre, Ferry Meadows at Nene Park, is a reminder that the true countryside is never far away. The meadows, lakes and woodland are maintained by the Nene Park Trust who also have responsibility for other Peterborough gems such as Thorpe Meadows, Orton mere and Woodston.

Whether you like to walk, jog, sail, fish or just play these green spaces provide plenty of scope for activities with a water sports centre, fishing facilities, a nature reserve and an 18-hole golf course. Central Park and Itter Park are also peaceful locations with areas for children to play and adults to relax.

If you have joined the country’s growing numbers of cyclists or if you just want to take the family for a bike ride you can choose from a number of scenic cycle routes, designed by Travelchoice, to allow you to explore some of Peterborough’s wonderful countryside and many attractions. Routes range between seven and 16 miles so you are bound to find something that suits you.

And if you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, Peterborough is home to some stunning locations for walking, such as Bluebell Wood and Alwalton. The surrounding villages also provide perfect areas to explore on your doorstep, from Barnack Hills and Holes and Fotheringhay Castle.

Peterborough isn’t too far from Norfolk’s beautiful sandy beaches. Just an hour’s drive away, Hunstanton provides not only attractive beaches and breath-taking views of the sea, but trips to see seals and the views from the famous Hunstanton cliffs.
